Stamos described himself as “the dorky kid” in school; he was interested in magic and often went to the Disneyland theme park only 20 minutes from his home. During season four, when Jesse and Becky are engaged, Jesse sees his ex-girlfriend Carrie at their ten-year high school reunion in "One Last Kiss". Struggling to separate himself from his Uncle Jesse screen persona, Stamos embraced theater after the series ended. He landed the lead role in the Broadway production of How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, replacing Matthew Broderick as the star. He appeared in CBS’ A Match Made in Heaven (1997) and The Marriage Fool (1998). Stamos performed on an independently released 1994 album entitled Shades of Blue along with Lanny Cordola, Gary Griffin, Sandra Stephens, Tony Guerrero, and David Enos. Shades of Blue was re-released digitally through iTunes and other channels in 2010 after being long out-of-print.

Hell’s Kitchen, a jukebox musical with music from pop sensation Alicia Keys, is the one to beat, boasting 13 nominations including Best Musical and four acting noms. John Stamos, who portrays Uncle Jesse on "Full House," is such an integral part of the show that it's hard to imagine it without him. Although Uncle Jesse may be annoying, and 16% of fans said he was their least favorite "Full House" character, he is still fun, humorous, and necessary to support the show's plot and the rest of its characters. Stamos seems to fit the role well, able to continuously play the fun yet irresponsible uncle as if he, like Jesse, really thinks it never gets old.
Turning back to family fare in 2021, Stamos teamed with Disney for two seasons of the Disney+ series Big Shot. He played Marvyn Korn, a fiery college basketball coach who loses his job and instead begins coaching an elite team at an all-girls private school. Ironically, Stamos's lack of a proper audition is perfectly fitting for Uncle Jesse's character.

But that’s not the worst thing that happens to Jesse in this bad luck episode. He also wrecks his bike and breaks both arms, which makes everything from playing guitar to eating cereal a true herculean feat. When Kevin finally tells Jesse the truth, Jesse apologizes to D.J. He knows a lot of experimentation is just around the corner, and he doesn't want her to lose her way like so many of his friends have. In a show powered by a good deal of fantasy (like those guys being able to afford that house on the combined salary of a newscaster, puppet comedian, and musician), Jesse's fears about D.J.
